Fastest Growing Industries in the United States 2026
Space vehicles, data centers and cybersecurity sit near the top of the 2026 rankings. Measured by the dollars each industry added rather than by growth rate, two petroleum industries account for two thirds of the total.
The fastest growing industry in the United States in 2026 is space vehicle and missile manufacturing, with revenue up 29.9% to $61.3 billion. The largest industry on the same list is gasoline and petroleum bulk stations, up 20.4% to $1.3 trillion.
Read by rank, the top ten looks like a story about space, cloud computing and cybersecurity. Read by the revenue each industry actually added in the year, it is mostly a story about oil and fuel. Oil and gas extraction and fuel bulk stations together added an estimated $325 billion, against $14 billion for space vehicle manufacturing.
The 10 Fastest Growing Industries in the United States in 2026

Growth across the ten ranges from 17.5% to 29.9%, with a median of 22.4%. Together the ten industries are worth an estimated $2.77 trillion in 2026, having added roughly $495 billion in the year, a combined growth rate of 21.7%.
Grouped by sector, four industries sit in energy and resources, four in technology and two in defence and aerospace.

Two Petroleum Industries Account for 66% of the Revenue Added
Converting each growth rate into dollars changes which industries matter most on this list.

Gasoline and petroleum bulk stations added an estimated $220.3 billion, 44.5% of all revenue added across the ten. Oil and gas extraction added $105.1 billion, a further 21.2%. The two together account for $325.4 billion, or 65.7%.
Space vehicle and missile manufacturing, ranked first, added $14.1 billion. Bulk stations, ranked ninth, added more than fifteen times that amount.
The first eight industries excluding oil and gas extraction added $169.9 billion between them. Bulk stations alone added $220.3 billion.
Growth Rate and Dollars Added Rank the Sectors in Opposite Order
Grouping the ten into three sectors makes the reversal explicit.

Defence and aerospace grows fastest at 29.8% and contributes 2.9% of the dollars. Energy and resources grows slowest at 20.7% and contributes 65.9%. Technology sits in the middle on both measures.
Space Vehicle and Missile Manufacturing Leads at 29.9%
Space vehicle and missile manufacturing is the fastest growing industry in the United States in 2026, with revenue rising 29.9% to $61.3 billion. On the growth rate given, the industry was worth an estimated $47.2 billion in 2025 and added $14.1 billion.

It is one of two defence and aerospace industries on the list. The other, autonomous underwater vehicle manufacturing, grew 22.5% to $677.2 million. The two are separated by a factor of roughly ninety in size, and the combined sector grows faster than either technology or energy.
Hyperscale Data Centers Are the Largest Industry Growing Above 25%
Hyperscale data center services grew 28.9% to $271.6 billion in 2026, second on the list by growth rate. Four industries grew faster than 25%. Hyperscale data centers are larger than the other three combined by a factor of more than four.

On the growth rate given, the industry added an estimated $60.9 billion in the year, more than any other technology industry on the list except software wholesaling. It is the only industry in the ranking that combines a growth rate close to 30% with a market size above $100 billion.
Software and Computer Hardware Add $94 Billion Between Them
Three technology industries beyond hyperscale data centers appear on the list. Together they added an estimated $93.7 billion in 2026.

Security software publishing grew 22.3% to $82.6 billion
Security software publishing ranks sixth by growth rate and adds an estimated $15.1 billion. Among the technology industries it is second smallest by size and third by dollars added.
Computer and packaged software wholesaling grew 21.2% to $430.8 billion
Software wholesaling is the largest technology industry on the list and adds the most revenue of the four, an estimated $75.4 billion. It ranks eighth by growth rate and third overall by dollars added, behind only the two petroleum industries.
Computer manufacturing grew 17.5% to $22.3 billion
Computer manufacturing closes the ranking in tenth place with the lowest growth rate of the ten. At an estimated $3.3 billion added it contributes less than 1% of the total. It is the only industry on the list growing below 20%.
Three of the Top Five Industries Are Smaller Than $3 Billion
Geophysical services at third, uranium and metal ore mining at fourth, and autonomous underwater vehicles at fifth are three of the smallest industries tracked on the list.

Together the three are worth $5.4 billion and added an estimated $1.1 billion, 0.2% of the revenue added across the ten.
Geophysical services and uranium mining both sit in energy and resources. Geophysical services include the seismic and survey work used in oil, gas and mineral exploration, which places the industry upstream of both oil and gas extraction and metal ore mining on the same list. Uranium is the fuel for nuclear power generation.
Oil, Gas and Fuel Distribution Revenue Includes Price Movement
Oil and gas extraction grew 21.3% to $598.7 billion. Gasoline and petroleum bulk stations grew 20.4% to $1.3 trillion, the largest industry on the list by a wide margin and 46.9% of the combined value of all ten.

For technology and manufacturing industries on this list, revenue growth largely reflects more product being sold. For oil and gas extraction and fuel distribution, it can reflect higher prices on similar volumes.
